I think we used to have a shoe uniform in catholic school because I remember wearing white keds a lot, and I remember how hot they would get from running around on the black asphault on warm fall days. These would have really clashed (and been awesome) with my green, white, and black plaid skirt.

christmas in west marin
Staying out at the beach for a few days was really beautiful. Mimoun, Mike and I drove over to Bolinas for a beer at Smiley's, where we ate christmas goose with the regulars and I made friends with an adorable three legged dog.

lunar eclipse
Did everyone see the lunar eclipse last night? It was wondrous! An awesome picture of the moon over the golden gate bridge and, below, over the washington monument.
More great pictures at national geographic. Enjoy!

christmas at the beach
happy holidays everyone! we are about to embark on nearly a week of quality time with the stillmans. Mo and Jim have rented a house at Stinson Beach for the week (with no dogs allowed. preposterous) and Mike, mimoun, lucy and I will be out there on Saturday to celebrate with them. can't wait to share pictures from whatever adventure my siblings + mimoun and I seek out on our customary christmas day hike to a magical place. Here are some christmas day photos from the past...

happy birthday mimsy!
Yesterday was Mimoun's birthday! Thanks brian and jared for a really fun evening and night. Dance party at midnight to Dominant Legs was tres awesome. Other highlights of the day/night include my fantastic peet's coffee and poppy seed bagels with cream cheese and cucumber breakfast made especially for mimsy, buying actually nice beer to drink (Shocktop and Red Tale Ale yum...), an enormous rosemary bush in the back yard of the party house that masked the beer and cigarette smell, and running in to old friends.

tumblr exploration
I just resurfaced from an hour long tumblr exploration... it's mesmerizing, you could follow link to link to link forever. Here are some stops I made along the way.

via chasing rainbows, via opium den
And then I zoned out on the opium den tumblr for a while, pondering how I am still a young grasshopper in finding awesome images on the internet. Such as this.

holiday party
This Friday I am overly excited for my first ever holiday party exclusively with work people. In movies there are always wild things happening at holiday parties, but I think this will be a little mellower.
The EPGP team is going to a new wine bar in the inner sunset after work on Friday called, cleverly, InnerFog. And, because it's UCSF and San Francisco, we're calling it a "winter time gathering to celebrate the end of the year" party. Anway, here are two of my favorite fog pictures I've taken while living here.

I love finding photography portfolios on the internet. Aren't these colors amazing? More vibrant pictures here.

outrage!!
Feast your eyes on this awful, ignorant, witch hunt of a plan called "YouCut" conjured up by the creepier and getting creepier republican members of congress. The idea is for you, the tax payer, to "vote" on NSF grants you do not think should be awarded funding.
I did have the video up, but it was too large and loud to see on my pretty blog... the photo gives you a good enough idea.
What if tax payers of the past decided studying cow pus was "not worthy of tax payer dollars"? soooo long smallpox vaccine. They've suggested terms for you to search for that include "museum," "culture," and "leisure"... because those are all clearly useless.
Help! when did scientific discovery come under attack? Where is the cast of west wing when you need them.

"winter mimosas"
Ohhh it's finally Friday and don't these just look delicious! I have been scheming and thinking about how to trick my dude friends into attending a holiday party.... food and whiskey go a long way. Other ideas?

trrrrron
Turns out, I was unfairly skeptical of mimsy's excitement to watch the 1982 version of Tron last night. This movie is ridiculous...in an awesome way. Also, ps, how slow and different is this trailer from the flickering montages they use now?
sigh. weddings
Cendy and I spent far too much of our time at work yesterday zoning out on the lovely pictures featured on green wedding shoes. Here are some of our favs. enjoy!

mugged
Walking home from the bike shop last night, two idiot teenagers held me up at knife point and demanded give me all your money. I told them I didn't have any cash and they were satisfied to take my blackberry and run off, holding up their sagging jeans. It was pretty scary!
The fine officers of the SFPD found them just a few blocks away, and now I have my too expensive to buy twice and much beloved phone back. Phew, what a good ending to an awful event. So, my wonderful friends, I hope you're safe and traveling in groups. I hope the kids learn from their mistake and make something amazing of their lives.

I've missed you, my lovely home and blog and friends and libby!
As you could probably tell from my series of emo tweets over the weekend, I am SO happy to be back from my work conference in San Antonio. It was fun to talk with our colorful EPGP PIs and spend time with my awesome boss, but other than that, I was counting down the hours to be back in my beloved SF.
On the plane, I worked on this little collage (thank you for the idea, other blog) of the stillmans + friends visit to Lake Tahoe last summer.
I guess it's a little difficult to read... woops! the next one will be better :) |

have you baked your own bread?
For our family's thanksgiving dinner, my cousin Ryan brought two of the most delicious loaves of his homemade sourdough bread. One day, when I have a kitchen that is bigger than my armspan, I would love to try making my own bread. Aren't these beautiful pictures? Many more on Mary Swenson's website.

what's the big deal?
Rather than be incensed by the possibility of our country pursuing yet another war democracy promoting combat operation, I love that my peer group says a collective, "who gives a hoot, let's just make a really funny tumblr about it."
